Above The Basement - Boston Music and Conversation

Episode 156 - Mistress Carrie

Episode Summary

With a name like Mistress Carrie, we might be forgiven if we were a bit cautious asking her on ATB for a chat. But we knew what we were getting into. Boston native Mistress Carrie is a badass. She was until recently a DJ for 22 years and the Assistant Program Director of Boston rock station WAAF. It is difficult to list everything she does, so I’ll plagiarize from her bio - She rides Harleys, runs the Boston Marathon, is an amateur marksman, military supporter, veterans advocate, guest lecturer, motivational speaker, baker, gardener, and likes to jump out of airplanes without a parachute. That last one may be fake news, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it were true. On top of that, she’s the first ‘non-news’ journalist embedded with US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. While we knew some of these things, in talking with her it is obvious just how much she cares about the men and women in the military. Her passion and support for those serving continues with her current projects. After WAAF sadly signed off for good recently, she started the Mistress Carrie Podcast and also created a following on Facebook with her Cocktails in The War Room livestream. We podcasters need to stick together, so once we heard about her latest projects, we knew we needed to have her on. And not only is she is the first podcaster we have had on ATB. But she is also the first with purple hair.
